The SVO Pet of the Week is Huey. Huey has already been passed around from home to home, and now he has now found himself at our Shelter. While we are sure his previous owners were well-intentioned, an English Pointer does need lots of exercise, and Huey is happiest being with people, not being left kenneled for long periods of time. Huey is high energy. He will require daily off leash hikes. With his muscular build and athletic frame, this handsome dog should make an excellent hiking, running, biking, and skiing buddy. Huey is very affectionate and enjoys attention. He can be a bit shy in new situations, but, as long as someone is there to guide him, he recovers quickly and becomes quite social. We recommend that his adopter read up on his breed, or have experience with hunting dogs. This guy is should make someone very happy, and we've promised him that his days of being passed around are over. We're going to find him a true forever home! Huey is a medium size neutered male English Pointer (purebred)...
The SVO Pet of the Week is Daisy. Daisy is everything a Pit Bull should be: social, friendly, great with dogs, and all lean muscle. She loves to go for hikes and is very well mannered off leash. Daisy meets everyone with a wagging tail, and, more often than not, a big slobbery kiss. She is young and will need training and an active home. She can be quite excitable if not given enough exercise, so we are recommending a home where she will gets daily hikes. Daisy is a quick study. She is learning her basic manners, but will need some more attention in this department. Daisy has lived with dogs and horses amicably before, but she is a bit annoying to cats, so we feel a cat free home would be best. Check out this adorable dog and see if she is the right one for you! Daisy is a medium size spayed female American Staffordshire terrier
born around 2009. For more information about Daisy or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of The Wood River Valley.
The SVO Pet of the Week is E.J. E.J. arrived at the Shelter as a stray, but his outgoing personality makes us believe he was once someone's pet. E.J. is a friendly cat, but he takes a little bit of time to become confident enough to let you see how great he really is. E.J. is friendly with other cats and doesn't seem too troubled by dogs. We are recommending a home without young children, because he may be overwhelmed by lots of activity. Come meet E.J., a great-looking cat with an equally great personality. E.J. is a neutered male Siamese mix born around March 2011. For more information about E.J. or any of the other wonderful pets at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351. The SVO Pet of the Week is Minnie Mouse. Minnie Mouse has gotten lots of attention since she arrived here as a stray. With her adorable greying face, it is hard not to want to pamper her! Minnie is a very sweet older dog. We believe she is at least 10 years old, and therefore we feel a quieter, less active home would be most appropriate for her. She is fine with other dogs, but doesn't especially enjoy interacting with them. She appears to be in good health, and just had her teeth cleaned, so we think she may have quite a few more years in her! She enjoys short walks, but enjoys a warm bed to lay in even more. If you can open your heart and home to this senior girl she will be forever grateful. Minnie Mouse is a spayed female Australian Cattle Dog (purebred) born around December 2001. For more information on Minnie or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter, pelase call 788-4351 or visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org . The SVO Pet of the Week is Cupid. Cupid arrived at the Shelter as a stray. It appeared that his family moved and left him in the apartment to fend for himself. Fortunately, the landlord found him and brought him to us, and this sweet kitty is now ready to find a real "forever" home. Not surprisingly, poor Cupid is a bit on the shy side. He takes some time to warm up, and he seems a little stressed by the hustle and bustle of the Shelter. We think he would do best in a quieter home where he could be the only pet, or live with other pets that are social and friendly. Cupid has all the makings of a lovely companion; he just needs someone willing to take a chance and give him the life he deserves. Cupid is a neutered male Domestic Shorthair born around February 2009. For more information on Cupid of any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351. The Pet of the Week is Duke. Duke came to ASWRV because he wasn't having much luck finding a home at a neighboring shelter. Duke is smart and athletic. He is a herding dog breed mix, so he will need daily exercise for his mind and body. Duke is still a puppy, and he still has lots to learn. He is beginning to master his basic manners, and, as smart as he is, he should know lots of tricks in no time! Duke is very friendly with dogs and would love a playmate to romp with. If you are looking for a friend who will keep you on your toes, Duke may be just the dog for you! Duke is a medium sized neutered male Border Collie/Aussie mix born around April 11, 2012. For more information about Duke or any of the other wonderful dogs and cats awaiting adoption at the animal shelter, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351. The SVO Pet of the Week is Rocco. Sweet, ten year old Rocco was found as a stray at a local grocery store and brought to the Shelter in the hopes of being reunited with his owner. Sadly, no one came for him, and so he is now looking for a new home. Rocco is as sweet as can be. He is an older boy, and he has cataracts, which limits his sight. When he arrived he had a tumor on his head, which we have removed. It was not cancerous, and appeared to be a fatty lump. Rocco is affectionate and loves cuddling and attention. He attended the Paw n' Pole last Sunday with his foster mom, Joy Bond, enjoying it not as a racer but a happy spectator snuggled warmly in Joy's arms. He would do best in a home without smaller children, where he wouldn't be left alone for long periods of time. While he has certainly warmed the hearts of all the staff, we're sure he would be happiest not waiting a long time before finding a true forever home.Rocco is a neutered male Chihuahua (purebred) born around January 2002. The SVO Pet of the Week is Amber. Amber is a rare beauty indeed! What makes her even more unique is that most orange cats are male, but Amber is female… not something we see every day. Amber is a bit shy, but she really enjoys attention and is to be fine with other cats. She would do best in a home where there wasn’t too much activity and she had time to adjust to all that was happening around her. A real stunner, we believe Miss Amber will make a wonderful companion. Amber is a spayed female Domestic Shorthair born around January 2008. For more information about Amber or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the animal shelter, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-6444.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Wendall. Wendall arrived at the Shelter as a stray cat, apparently abandoned. It didn't take long for us to realize he had been a pet at some time. He enjoys attention and has a great purr. He is easygoing and seems fine with other cats. Wendall likes to explore and is still quite curious. We think he would make a great family pet, as well as an only pet, as he seems to like getting all the attention. With his bob tail and handsome face, he's sure to win you over! Wendall is a neutered male Domestic Medium Hair born around February 2010. For more information about Wendall or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Belle. Belle is one of the sweetest dogs to pass through our doors. Poor Belle was returned to the Shelter because her adopter became seriously ill and no longer able to take care of her. Everyone here hopes that this special dog can find a loving home in which to to spend her golden years. Only great things can be said about this girl. She is good with people and loves to visit the local nursing home and bring cheer to the residents. Belle is wonderful with dogs and cats, and she loves to snuggle up and nap as well as take walks. If ever you have considered opening your home to a senior pet, you will not be able to find one nicer than Belle. Belle is a medium size spayed female Border Collie mix born around January 2001. For more information about Belle or any of the other wonderful dogs or cats awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-6444.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Harrison. Some cats are blessed with beauty and personality. Harrison is certainly one of those cats! He is as friendly as he is handsome, but there is no ego to go along with it, making him a truly wonderful kitty! Harrison is friendly with other cats and does not seem put out by dogs. We think he would make a great family pet and we're sure he would enjoy lots of attention. Because of his long coat, Harrison will require some grooming, but he doesn't seem to mind this activity one bit. If you are looking for an all around wonderful kitty, stop by and meet Harrison! For more information on Harrison or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-6444.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Dexter. Dexter is one cool cat. Nothing seems to bother him, and we're guessing that his years roaming neighborhoods allowed him to see it all. He came to us as a stray, but he was already neutered, indicating he at one time was someone's pet. He also had a large abscess on his side, suggesting that another cat in the neighborhood wasn't so fond of him. We think Dexter would make a great family companion. He enjoys attention, but he’s also content to watch it all from his perch. He is a large cat, but doesn't mind being handled or petted. If you like the look of a Russian Blue, come meet Dexter… he is every bit as handsome. He sure deserves a better life from here on out. Dexter is a neutered male Russian Blue/DSH mix born around December 2009. For more information about Dexter or any of the other wonderful cats and dogs available for adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call us at 788-6444.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Midnight. Midnight was brought to the Shelter along with her kitten Milky Way. While she wanted to be a great mom, it seemed she was unable to produce enough milk for her kitten. So, the two were put into a foster home where Midnight could provide her kitten with love and care, and the foster mom could provide her with much needed nutrients. After being a wonderful mom, Midnight is now ready to find her own forever home. She loves people and loves attention. She is friendly with other cats and will even try to play with dogs! She'll need a home where she can be a true member of the family. Midnight is a spayed female Domestic Shorthair Bobtail born around September 2010.For more information on Midnight or any of the other wonderful cats or dogs available for adoption at the Animal Shelter, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351.
Some dogs have the perfect names. Zen is a dog who exudes a zen-like attitude about life. She is calm, peaceful, and content to hang out as much as she is to go for a walk. If only we all could only be so at peace with the world around us! Zen is a wonderful dog. She loves everyone she meets, and our volunteers love to take her out on walks, because she doesn't pull and is happy to walk at any pace. She is great with other dogs. She has lived harmoniously with cats, but she does like to chase them when they're outside and they run. Zen is good with children, and she would be fine with a dog who doesn't want to play all day. Zen could easily make some lucky person a perfect companion. Zen is a spayed female Pit Bull Terrier born around October 2004. For more information about Zen or any of the other wonderful dogs or cats available for adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351.
Priscilla was passed from home to home until eventually she was brought to the Shelter so she could find her forever home. Priscilla is a quiet, beautiful cat who is independent, but enjoys some attention. She is fine with other cats and is ok with dogs. Priscilla is still young and active, and she’s a bit shy, so she would do best in a home where she wouldn’t be expected to be a lap cat. She is great about using her litter box, and likes to use her scratching post as well. Priscilla is a nice cat that really deserves a home she can count on for life. We are hopeful that this time around, she’ll be loved by her adopters forever. Priscilla is a spayed female DLH born around May 2008.For more information about Priscilla or the other wonderful dogs and cats awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Boots. Boots' owners got a job in a neighboring state and decided not to take Boots with them. Boots is a really nice cat and quite handsome too. He has lived with a cat and dog before, but would probably do best without rambunctious dogs in the house. Boots has proven to be a good family cat… He likes attention, and he’s good with kids. Boots is quite active. His favorite game is to chase string around. Still a kitten at heart, Boots is looking to have many years of playing with his forever family. Boots is a neutered male Domestic Shorthair born around August 2007. For more information on Boots or any of the other wonderful cats and dogs waiting for their new homes at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or phone 788-4351.
The SVO Pet of the Week is Liza
The
SVO pet of the week is Liza. Liza was
adopted from the Shelter three years ago and has found herself back and once
again looking for a forever home. If given the chance, Liza will tell you all
about it. She loves to talk, and she loves getting attention. She is most
talkative when she is hungry, which is about 20 hours of the day. It seems that
in the past, Liza was allowed to eat as much as she wanted and this resulted in
her becoming quite large. Here at the Shelter, she is back on a diet and we're
working on getting her to be the svelte beauty her lovely markings should grace.
While Liza isn't crazy about the idea, she is being a good sport! Liza is good
with other cats and not too fazed by dogs. She is a wonderful cat with loads of
personality. This girl deserves nothing but a fabulous forever home. Liza is a
spayed female Domestic Shorthair born around August 2005. For more information

Although they had each other, it was still a very scary event. Rolo is sweet and sensitive and can be a bit nervous in new situations. Since arriving at the shelter, Miss Rolo is experiencing lots of new things and is already building up her confidence. Rolo loves other dogs and would benefit by sharing her new home with another more confident canine. Due to her shy nature, we are recommending a home without children under the age of twelve years old. Rolo is ready to be someone’s special little girl and become the most loving and loyal puppy she can be. Rolo is a medium size, spayed female Australian Shepherd/Chow Chow mix born around August 2010. For more information about Rolo or any of the other wonderful dogs and cats available for adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or phone 788-4351. Eleanor is always ready for any adventure; she is a wonderful hiking companion and loves everyone she meets human and canine! Eleanor has not had much formal training, but she is extremely bright and eager to learn new things. This agile and spirited girl would do best in a home where regular exercise is part of the routine. She has lived with children before, but, due to her energy level, we feel kids over 6 years old would be best. Eleanor is ready to resume living the good life and not miss out on enjoying one day of summer!Eleanor is a medium size spayed female Labrador Retriever / German Shorthaired Pointer mix born around June 2010. The SVO Pet of the Week is Wishbone. Wishbone was given up due to family complications. He is 10 years old. He is taking the change in stride, but his unhappiness is quite apparent. It is tough for senior dogs to be homeless, so we are hoping he’ll find his “forever home” soon. Wishbone is a great little dog. He is friendly with most dogs and has lived with cats before. He loves going for hikes and loves to be with people. If you’ve thought about having a Jack Russell, but weren’t sure you could handle a young one, Wishbone would be the perfect introduction to the breed. He is still quite a character and definitely an active dog. Wishbone would do best in a home without very young children and with owners able to give him moderate amounts of exercise. This handsome gentleman is eager to be back in a home, this time forever.Wishbone is a neutered male Jack Russell Terrier (purebred) born around June 2001. In response to the outbreak of equine herpes (known as the EHV-1 virus) that has resulted in the death of 12 horses this spring, Dynamite Specialty Products has introduced a package of products to support the immune system of horses that have been exposed as well as an all-natural cleaner for tack and trailers that might be carrying the virus. The combination of products is designed for boosting immune systems against equine herpes and following the recommendations of the University of California, Davis Veterinary School. It suggests that “enforcement of . . . hygiene practices are likely to be more effective than widespread vaccination in reducing the risk of acquiring EHV-1 infection.” “The package contains our new Blanket & Barn Wash, as well as Solace and two related products to support the horse’s immune system,” said Callie Novak, Dynamite CEO. “Although all of the products are available separately, the new package is offered at a discount and will make it easier for horse owners to be sure they have...
The SVO Pet of the Week is Ruby. Ruby is an adorable dog who likes to go for hikes almost as much as she likes snuggling. She is an energetic and smart girl who is looking for someone to help her learn all about life. She is quickly learning her basic manners here at the Shelter and is proving to be a quick study. She is playful with dogs and has apparently interacted well with cats in her previous home. Ruby is an active and smart dog, and she’ll need an adopter dedicated to exercising her mind and body daily. She is crate trained and housebroken, and should be an excellent companion for her new adopter! Ruby is a spayed female Border Collie mix born around September 2010. For more information on Ruby and any of the other wonderful dogs and cats at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website at www.animalshelterwrv.org or call 788-4351. The SVO Pet of the Week is Mufasa. At fourteen years old, it can be tough for any cat to transition into Shelter life. Mufasa however, is taking it all in stride. He has claimed the best bed in the room, is the first to eat his meals, and enjoys all the attention he is receiving. Dear old Mufasa was surrendered to the Shelter when his owners moved. They describe him as a sweet, easygoing cat. We certainly agree… It doesn’t seem anything bothers this fellow. Mufasa is good with dogs, fine with cats, and great with people. No animal deserves to be homeless, but elderly animals always pull on our heartstrings a bit more, and poor Mufasa is no exception. We’re hopeful that someone will see how wonderful this cat truly is, and let him spend his senior years in a home rather than a Shelter. Mufasa is a neutered male Domestic Shorthair born around May, 1997. For more information on Mufasa or any of the other wonderful pets awaiting adoption at the Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley, please visit our website...
